It Didn’t Have To Be

The memory of her still haunts me.
I close my eyes and I am there again.
I can recall the sweet smell of your hair,
the soft tenderness of your skin.
The heaven in your eyes,
and the love that you gave me.
I can remember the rage I felt when he took you from me,
and how burden my soul became, how sorrow-filled my heart.
The pain of your death still haunts me,
and so many things have fallen apart.
I think of you often, in memory do you remain
alive and perfect, unlike this world gone insane.
And never shall I forget our last, sweet tender kiss,
even as you bleed to death in my arms.
I hope that you have found your peace,
and know that he can do you no more harm.
